On 22nd January, 2015, our students, Sneha Aggarwal and Nancy Rustagi of class 10-A, Arwachin International School, got a great opportunity to participate in the Regional-;level science exhibition held by C.B.S.E. at G.D. Doenka Public School, Karkardooma.

The themes of the exhibition were:-

          1.     Community Health & Environment

          2.     Landmarks in Science & Mathematics

          3.     Information & Communication Technology

          4.     Energy- Resources & Conservation

          5.     Transport

          6.     Waste Management

Our theme was “Community Health & Environment”. The main objectives of this area are: to bring awareness among the children about health and factors affecting our health; to explore new scientific, technological and bio-medical inventions in prevention and cure; to analyse the role of self and society in keeping our environment healthy in order to maintain good health and promote innovative ideas for better management.

The exhibition stretched on for three days and every day they got an exposure to the tremendous growth in the science sector and rapid modernization of technology.

Our project was “Preparation of a Low Cost Nutritious Food” which aimed at reducing malnutrition in India and generating employment for Indian youth. The ingredients used were ragi and mango seed kernel, both of which when produced in bulk, are cost-effective and highly nutritious.

Ninety four schools took part in the exhibition each of which created a thick aura of science. It is said that “great people are not the ones who do extraordinary things but, they are the ones who do ordinary things in extraordinary ways”.

Some exhibits were remarkable. One of such exhibits displayed was bio-plastic bag made out of biodegradable substance. In addition to this, there was a squeezy car which was designed in such a way that it could contract itself in the congested areas in order to ease locomotion and save fuel. Furthermore, there was one exhibit which was about controlling the traffic. There were many more like producing herbal medicines to cure diseases.

This exhibition was not only about participating but also about interacting with complete strangers and getting an exposure to the outside world. It was a wonderful and a valuable learning experience for he students.

Under the guidelines of the CBSE, Arwachin International School observed Road Safety Week from 11th-17th Jan, 2015, as a part of the advocacy campaign for road safety. The objective of this week-long programme was to highlight & emphasize the need for safer roads.

The theme for the Road Safety Week was “Safety is not just a slogan; it’s a way of life.” Various road safety activities were undertaken in the school during the week.

An awareness programme was held in the school premises for the drivers of the school transport. Training was imparted to them about road safety rules, various signs on road and first-aid service in case of accidents.

The students of class 10th presented aNukkad Natak’ in the school premises in which they depicted some of the major causes of road accidents such as ‘driving without helmet’,’ drunken driving ‘and ‘over speeding’. They also made everyone aware of the Honb’le Supreme Court’s verdict which specifies that the effort to save any injured person should be the top prority of anyone who happens to notice an accident.

The students of class 8th organized an interactive assembly which included presentations and a short quiz on the issues related to road safety, i.e, effects of violation of road safety rules, rules of road regulation-1989 and other Motor Vehicle Regulations.

The students of the school also displayed banners and posters all around the school building.

(As a Precautionary Measure against the Terrorist Attack/Kidnapping of Children, etc.)

Being aware of the terrorist attack on school children in Peshawar last month, a mock drill was conducted in Arwachin International School, Dilshad Garden on Thursday i.e. 15th Jan’15 in order to be prepared or handle any unexpected eventualities such as earthquake, terror attack, kidnapping of children at the time of arrival or departure, etc. The school sprang into action and beefed up their security.  The school issued some guidelines to the students and teachers in dealing with such terror situations. It appraised on how to deal with such situations of crisis. The school had an evacuation plan for each floor in order to ensure the safety and security of the students. It required all the children to stay back in their respective classes or rooms rather than in an open area, and lie low to escape random firing. It also ensured that a system is in place to set off the alarm, alert the police and respond to medical emergencies.

The school has also planned to organize such mock drills at regular intervals for the students of the school during the school hours.

Japanese Folk Dance performance By Ms.Yuko Nojima of Ichiukawa School

Zeni Daiko & Loach scoopers’ dance (Yasugi-bushi)

The Japanese Language department of Arwachin International School was truly honoured to have a well known artist from Shimane prefecture, Japan, Ms. Yuko Nojima, who gave a splendid performance on 14.01.2015. She belongs to the HQ’s training hall-branch of the Orthodox Yasugi-bushi Preservation Association. She’s been learning Men dance, Zeni-daiko, Song & Three stringed Japanese instrument “Shamisen” under the guidance of Mr. Tsutomu Ichiukawa since August 2008.She has received a number of awards for these performances in Japan.

This program was held for all the Japanese students of our school.

She was kind enough to educate our students about the famous places of Shimane and Matsue city and their significance with the help of a Power Point Presentation.

Her performance consisted of folk songs followed by a typical folk-dance of Shimane ie. Zeni daiko and a men’s dance called “Dojoo-sukui” (Loach scoopers’ dance).

After the performance a workshop was also held in which she taught these dances to our students. All the students from classes V to XI participated in the dance with great interest and enthusiasm.

She also brought some souvenirs from Japan which were made by the students of her school in Japan. We were really touched by the gesture and our students also showed interest in writing letters and sending Indian souvenirs for their counter parts in Japan.

It was a wonderful opportunity for all of us to experience the Japanese culture in its most beautiful form i.e, Yasugi Bushi (Traditional Dance form). It was a great opportunity for our students to encounter Japanese culture as they hardly get any chance to watch such dances in India.

We wish to have such interaction in future as well.
