Inter House English Elocution Competition

Elocution refers to one’s capacity of communicating with others, with the use of exact speech and gestures. Keeping this in mind the ‘Inter House English Elocution Competition’ is conducted annually wherein every student in class is trained to face an audience with confidence and recite their poems with correct diction, clarity and pronunciation.

The Inter House Elocution Competition was held on 30th September, 2015. A healthy competitive spirit enlightened the faces of the students of classes 1 to 3 as they marched off to the auditorium for the competition. The competition began with the students competing against each other in the Solo Round. Following the Solo Round, the Group Elocution Competition commenced in which the entire class had to recite a poem. It was a pleasure to watch our smart children conduct themselves in a disciplined manner and recite the poems with feelings and conviction.

Mrs. Peter applauded the efforts of Solo participants and gave constructive feedback for Group performances. The competition gave a lot of encouragement and confidence to our budding speakers and all present there.

    BEWARE OF DENGUE

    NEW

                                          BEWARE OF DENGUE

As the city reels under the threat of dengue, the students of Arwachin International School take the pledge of spreading maximum awareness among the students, teachers and the other staff members of the school. They have been conducting assemblies, making posters and spreading words of awareness.

One such attempt was seen on 29th September 2015, when the students of Class IX-A conducted an interactive assembly to make everyone aware of the vector-borne disease. The students started the assembly with a skit in which they showcased the dangers of not being aware. The skit was followed by a presentation which informed the audience all about dengue—what it is and how it spreads. After the audience had got enough information, it was time to make them aware about the dos and don’ts. So, the students of IX-A then showed a PPT explaining what we should do and what we shouldn’t to prevent the spread of the disease.

The assembly ended with the valuable words of our honourable principal, Mrs. Gracy Peter, who advised the students to follow the norms and wear full-sleeved school uniform. The Arwachinians were encouraged and inspired by her to take proper preventive measures in order to be careful and safe.

        NEW

        Event: European Language Day

        Date: 26.09.15

Venue: Shiv Nadar School , Gurgaon

        Timings:  8:40- 2:00 p.m.

In order to celebrate the European Language Day, various renowned institutes of European languages collectively organized a workshop on 26 September at Shiv  Nadar School in Gurgaon  which aimed  to equip the teachers with various dynamic and advanced form of teaching methodologies  to strengthen the learning abilities of the students.

The French teachers of AIS attended two modules namely, “Future Learning” or “Digital Learning” and ‘’Use of literature and creative writing in language teaching’’. The former enabled the teachers to explore the importance of Digital learning in making our education system more efficient.  As technological innovations are gathering momentum, Digital learning has emerged as the revolutionized form of learning with the upper hand of technology where a teacher can inculcate an interactive learning environment in the classroom using effective teaching aids like Face book, Google docs, Google hangout, Pinterest, Twitter etc. Another salient feature of digital learning is that owing to the availability of a lot of teaching material, the teachers can practice a wide variety of activities in a class.

However, in the second module, the teachers have learnt about how literary texts can be used as effective mode of learning which not only helps to enhance vocabulary but also invites students to express their opinions. They will help not only to enjoy reading stories but will also to hone their creative and writing skills. With the use of novels, short stories and other literary works, the students will be able to explore their enriched literature and enhance their imagination. Moreover, it will also help in enhancing their reading, listening, comprehensive and communication skills.

To sum up, it was a very interactive session and the teachers found it very useful.

          Personal Safety Session

          NEW

          Personal Safety Session

Safeguarding Children from Unsafe Touch is an important task. Many children fall prey to sexual abuse by adults and sometimes older children. A large number (15-20%) of adults report that they were abused or inappropriately touched as children. Children from all socio-economic classes are affected! This experience can leave very deep emotional scars on children and affect their development as happy, healthy adults.

Keeping this issue in focus, our school decided on a simple yet an effective way to prevent Child Sex Abuse (CSA), that is by educating our children about safe / good and unsafe / bad touch. This did not involve any talk of SEX or sex organs! It was a part of safety training for all our children.

We educated children from classes 1-5, about four parts of their body (mouth, chest, bottom and between legs) that are not to be touched by anyone. We also taught them how to protect themselves in case such a thing happens. The children had to identify a “safe adult” in the school and outside, as a part of this training. The role of the identified safe adult is important as the child would communicate with this safe adult in case they experience “Bad Touch”. These sessions also stressed on the fact that, if they did experience bad touch, it is never the child’s fault. We aim to take these sessions in regular intervals

Let’s all work together to give our children a safe and happy childhood.

It was followed by a devotional song “Nand ka Lala” that appealed to our heart and mind. All the students witnessed the naughty childish activities of Krishna and Balram. The choir of young singers sang an English song in praise of the Lord. There was another skit that showcased the killing of the evil king Kans by Lord Krishna. The young instrumentalists of Arwachin synchronized the tunes of table and keyboard on various devotional songs of Krishna. Finally the students danced on  the medley of popular Krishna songs which was highly appreciated by all.

Mr. Sharma enlightened the students with the reason of Lord Krishna stealing the butter from various houses. Mrs. Peter insisted that celebration of any festival becomes meaningful when we become a part of it by overcoming our weakness and limitation. It was an eventful day.
