Arwachin International School Exhorts Voters to Vote

30th November,2013

Dilshad Garden, Delhi-95

On a bright sunny morning the sanguine students of Arwachin Internaitonal School took to the streets of Dilshad Garden to call upon the residents of  the locality to go out in hordes and vote on 4th December for the state assembly election.

The students enacted street plays at various spots in Dilshad Garden. The play emulated the methodology of  “Nukkad Natak” and scripted the callous behaviour of politicians who hibernate  through their term and awake only during elections. An NGO was seen rousing people against such selfish leaders. The people were encouraged to realize their rights and duties as citizens of India.

Earlier in the day the Arwachinians trooped out of the campus of their Alama Mater donning their  school uniforms and were carrying flags, posters, placards with messages  on the need to go out and vote. They were chanting slogans on the need to vote and exercise the right to decide who would lead the state of Delhi. Penned in Hindi the slogans roused quite an interest among pedestrians and the residents who flocked to hear and see what was happening. Many of the  passers-by joined the slogan chanting which encouraged the students immensely.

The procession paused at many a point in Dilshad |Garden. When it reached I pocket, the students were in for a pleasant surprise. The President of  RWA,I Pocket, Mr. D C Garg , not only  appreciated and lauded  the efforts of the students but also came forward and delivered a speech exhorting others to step forth and do what the children were encouraging everybody to do.

The appreciative smile and the claps from the people thronging to the spot showed the success of this noble campaign.

        Life Skill Summit

The summit recognized the value of creating awareness regarding Health and Wellness, Life Skills, Gender Sensitivity, Values Education with National and Global perspectives. The event aimed at developing a sense of self-confidence, sensitivity and awareness towards various issues and concerns such as gender, environment, health and wellbeing in the students.

The regional summit was held on 27th and 28th of November 2013 at the regional summit center, National Bal Bhavan. The registered team of our school consisted of four students and a teacher, Ms. Thanya Yohannan. The students who participated in the summit were Karishma Tamane of class 9-C, Mansi Tyagi, M. Somnath and Kushaggra Sharma of class 10-B.

Day one, the students worked hard for different kinds of competitions like Global School Health Exhibition, On the Spot Poster Making, Theme Songs on Gender and Values, Creating a Thematic Jingle, Wellness Elocution and finally an Adolescent Whiz-Quiz. All the competitions were centered on the themes of gender, quality of education, environment and values.

Day 2 began with the National Youth Health Parliament which involved the interaction of the students on health, education, gender equality and child rights. Recommendations were jotted down in the form of a Students’ Charter. After the youth parliament the students and teachers attended separate workshops- the students’ workshop consisted of lectures, role plays and videos to facilitate their march towards awareness, responsibility and empowerment as peer educators. The teachers’ workshop was focused on orienting them to common problems faced in the classrooms to make them more inclusive in nature.

Post lunch the students and teachers gathered to view short films made by CBSE students from the International Young Film Maker Festivals. These films were then analyzed by the students and teachers using focused group discussions.

The two day event ended with the vote of thanks and distribution of participation certificates. It was a fruitful event as the students opened up to radical new ideas by their own peers of other schools. The event was followed by a healthy discussion on gender, eve teasing, quality of education and moral values existing in our world today. I would summarise that it was an informative summit.
