ASL WORKSHOP

Keeping up with changing times, CBSE has modified English language teaching and grading to include a specific section of ‘Assessment in Speaking and Listening Skills’. Considering this, the workshop was conducted in Lovely Public Sr. Sec. School on 21st Dec and 22nd December, 2015. The workshop guided the teachers about the methods of conducting and assessing Speaking and Listening Skills of students from classes IX, X and XI. The Assessment of Speaking and Listening Skills (ASL) is a program introduced by CBSE in collaboration with Trinity College, London.

The facilitators gave in depth training to teacher participants on ASL. The workshop covered the details of speaking and listening tasks comprising objectives behind it and the ways to achieve it. Through a number of activities and handouts, the teachers learnt the format of the paper and various activities to provide ample practice to learners.

The focus on the second day was on speaking skills. The workshop was ended by solving queries, feedback, which was quite an enriching experience.

    Christmas assembly was celebrated by the students of classes 1 to 5 on 22.12.15 with much fanfare. Mrs. Peter lighted the auspicious lamp. A small skit on “God has the best plan for everyone” was presented by the students of classes 2 and 3. It brought out the message very clearly. The choir sang “Chan chan  chan ghanti bajti hai” melodiously. Another choir sang a medley of Christmas songs beautifully. The young and energetic instrumentalists displayed their skills by playing different instruments in a very synchronized manner. Santa Claus, in his traditional clothing, also tickled the funny bone of the audience. The programme was concluded with the dancers performing on a medley of Christmas songs. Mr. Sharma, our director and Mrs. Peter, our principal, extended their greetings to everyone present. They also reminded that the essence of the festival was caring and sharing.  The true spirit lies in giving than receiving. Let us have peace and love in this world.

      GANIT WEEK

      (16-12-2015 to 22-12-2015)

      In order to commemorate the 128th birth anniversary of Dr.S. Ramanujan on 22nd December 2015, the students of Arwachin International School celebrated the GANIT(Growing Aptitude in Numerical Innovations and Training) WEEK. The students of each grade were divided into groups of 5-8 depending upon the class strength and various activities were conducted.The students of classes VIII and X enjoyed the relay race where a series of questions were prepared and the students moved ahead in the race only after solving the given questions. The students of class IX showed their creativity in presenting the abstract concepts through paper cutting and paper folding activities. A quiz was also organised for classes IX, XI, XII. All the classes right from I –XII enjoyed the GANIT WEEK and have learnt a lot. The celebration  of GANIT WEEK was a golden oppurtunity for the students to learn new mathematical concepts through fun and enjoyment.

        Yes, it is truly said that Christmas waves a magic wand over this world and makes everything very beautiful. Arwachinians celebrated Christmas with great zeal and fervor. The classrooms were decorated well and the Christmas assembly was also enjoyed by everyone with great enthusiasm. The assembly commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Mrs. Peter. The choir sang the song ‘Pyaari Raat’ melodiously. Conveying the true meaning of Christmas, a drama was staged by the students. The young and energetic instrumentalists displayed their skills by playing different instruments. The assembly was concluded by a breathtaking dance performance by the class six girls.  Mrs. Peter appreciated the students and the teachers for the efforts they put in to make the Christmas morning a great morning.

          Workshop by Teach Next

           A workshop for Pre-Primary teachers was organized by Teach Next on 21st Dec’15.  The workshop was presided by Mrs Sunmita Shinde Kar, an experienced academician who has been regularly conducting workshops on Experiential Learning & development of the children. The aim of the workshop was to empower the teachers and to enable them to create and sustain participatory environment in a classroom, and help them gain a new perspective on effective teaching.

          It was then followed by making the teachers understand about the different categories of learners & their development. It also emphasized on the dire need of curriculum planning in today’s scenario as we need HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT of the children.                                                                                                                       

               It also included the planning of various activities to be conducted for the development of fine & gross motor skills of the children like beading, clay moulding etc. The activities/curriculum should be planned in such a way that it aims at developing all the essential skills i.e. Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, and Thinking.

          The workshop was very informative. It was inspirational, motivational and an eye opener for all the teachers. Such workshops help not only in updating the knowledge of teachers but also become stepping stones in making the teaching learning process cordial.

            Workshop for English teachers (Scholastic Publications)

             A workshop was organized on 21st Dec 2015 in the premises of Arwachin International School, where the English teachers from various schools had an opportunity of interacting with an educationist Mrs. Saloni. The esteemed resource person enlightened the teachers on how to transcend from a good teacher to a great teacher and help the students feel motivated and enjoy learning. The main areas of concentration were the 5 Cs- Communication, Comprehension. Circle Time, Collaboration and Creativity. It aimed at helping all the language teachers to make the dull and boring classrooms come alive by incorporating various language games like The HOOK Method, Mime Activity, Password Game for Vocabulary Development, Gender Bender and Cloze Activity. The workshop encouraged the teachers to develop reading habits among the students. One tag line that caught everybody’s attention and which should be taught to the students is- “ Print always has a message”. The workshop was a great success in encouraging the teachers to broaden their outlook and enhance the method of imparting language, keeping in mind the changing demands of the students of the present generation.

              ARWACHIN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL 

              CELEBRATES ITS ANNUAL DAY

              Arwachin International School celebrated its magnificent and reverberating Annual Day function on the theme "Le Theatrical Musical"on 15th December, 2015. The theme was befitted with the thought to get into the world of stories which we have long forgotten and be child like through theatre and music. 
              The chief guest and Guest of Honour were Mr.J.K. Sharma, DGP, Homeguards, Delhi and Mr.Rajendra Tiwari , Joint Director, Assurance Committee, Parliament House, Delhi respectively.
              The event was graced with the presence of the Director of the school, Mr. Arun Sharma, Principal Mrs.Gracy Peter and other distinguished dignitaries. Lighting of the lamp by delegates marked the inauguration of the musical extravaganza as the rendition of Saraswati Vandana made the environment pure and pious. Our students then presented the school Annual Report to the gathering tracing the progress, major events and achievements of the school. This was followed by the Prize distribution ceremony. The delegates gave the prizes to the Toppers of Class 10 and 12 along with the achievers for academic proficiency and sports activities.The prestigious Smt. Jain Devi and Shri Sriniwas Sharma scholarships for the session 2016-17 were given to Shruthi Rao of Class 9 and Pancham Gupta of Class 11 which was followed by the message delivered by the chief guest and the guest of honour.
              The programme was an amalgamation of various hues and the students spread the colours of peace and happiness through songs dances and dramas based on the stories from Sri Krishna Avatar, Arabian Nights, French and Japanese Folktales. The beautiful rendition of French and Japanese songs and dances in the traditional attire was spell binding. 

              Theme based dance from the Arabian Nights captivated the guests, 'The Tale of Melon City ', a folklore from the land of sand dunes added colour to the festive occasion and the synchronized dance movements to the foot tapping music of Arabian songs enthralled the audience.  A Hindi drama depicting the victory of good over evil which was an astounding visual treat was presented on the mythological tale of Bhasmasur and Mohini.
              The confidence and the superb performance of the students on the stage kept the audience glued to their seats throughout the show.

              The programme went through and finally came to a close with a roar, leaving awed and yearning for more.

              On the whole the show which was the fruit of many hours of tireless work on the part of the whole team of AIS was acknowledged by the Honourable Director, Mr. Sharma and the Principal, Mrs.Peter in her vote of thanks.

                The Annual Sports Day of Primary wing of Arwachin International School was held on 1st December, 2015 in the school premises. The event commenced with the lightning of lamp by our respected Principal Mrs. Gracy Peter and our respected coordinator Mrs. Priya Grover. The event began with Torch Relay. Winner athletes of the previous year confidently took the torch to its destination. Then the house captains of the four houses led their group in the March Past. The March Past came to end with the oath-taking ceremony. Then the students of classes 1-3 presented Wand Drill. Students of classes 1-5 showcased various asanas of yoga. The students of classes 4-5 presented aerobics energetically. Students of classes 3-5 showed various forms of karate.

                After this the various events of the day began. The events included various types of races under the category of boys and girls. The events were class-wise. Class 4-5 had hurdle race too. Winners of the different events were declared simultaneously. The winners were honoured by our respected Principal.

                The spirit of the day continued with a teacher’s race at the end. The event came to an end with the encouraging words of our respected Principal Mrs. Gracy Peter.
