SEWA
PROJECT
EMPATHY
Academic
year 2016-2017 opened up for our students with a brand new SEWA project-
Empathy. Brainstorming sessions with the students were organized to draft an
action plan on how to proceed with the project and its scope.
Discussions
were held in the class on the activities of the project. One of the activities
done by the students, was to prepare 'who needs my help' worksheet. The students were asked to depict through
words, prayers and poems about the needs of others and to provide assistance
without being asked.
A
thorough orientation of the students was taken on how they can help children
who are differently abled. They were asked to think about those fighting with
terminal diseases like Cancer, or those who belong to disadvantaged groups or
are facing with physical challenges. Our students were asked to be in their
shoes and see how they lead their lives.
As
a school activity, the teachers planned their interaction, on rotation, with
differently abled children and the young ones of class 1, 2, and 3 during
examination time. The students were properly trained to guide and support the
young children during the exam and also provide their assistance to the
teachers.
The activity was planned to make the students
empathize with other students, experience their fear and anxiety during the
exam period. To make our students understand first how attempting a paper for a
differently abled student can be a frustrating and a de-motivating task.

essential quality of civilization."- Roger Ebert
