CBSE-i IN ACTION
Traffic Summit 2013
Social Empowerment through Work and Action (SEWA) is an integral component of CBSE-i. The objective of this programme is to highlight the importance of interdependence of all human beings in this shrinking global village. Keeping the purpose of SEWA in mind the teachers undertake projects to sensitize the children towards others and make them responsible individuals.
Road safety and obeying traffic rules was one such project and a lot of thought was put in to deciding ways that would be best to influence the community. Hence on December 14th 2013 students and teachers of CBSE-I decided to call a Traffic Summit. The parents were invited to participate and help spread awareness.
The auditorium had an exhibition corner where our teachers proudly displayed the work done by the students from clay modeling to work sheets or SEWA diaries. Parents at the exhibition corner were given badges and were asked to sign the pledge sheets through which they promised to sincerely follow all the traffic rules and make Delhi roads safe.
One of our other major displays was the Traffic Park which was made by the students under the guidance of our talented art teachers. It was set up on the second floor of our school building. Roads were laid down and traffic lights and signs were erected at different parts, and to add the final touch the children were asked to navigate the different modes of transport, while following the traffic rules.
The one hour informative event included recitation and road safety songs sung by our little tots, mime and street play which highlighted issues of road rage, drinking and driving, over speeding and also a wonderful dance performance by the students on a medley of songs related to road safety. But one of the favorites was the quiz which had the adults quivering in their seats. The students of CBSE-I quizzed our esteemed guests and parents on traffic rules.
At the end we had our esteemed guests, Mr. Arun Sharma, Mrs. Sandra Swarup, CBSE-I coordinator and Mrs. Gracy Peter, our Principal speak to us a few words of wisdom and share with us their experiences with us. We concluded our day with the singing of the National Anthem.
