Capacity Building Programme on Classroom Management

One of the greatest challenges teachers face today in their profession is how to manage their classes with children who are digitally inclined, with reduced attention span.

The two- day programme on Classroom Management organized by Central Board of Secondary Education for the teachers focused upon managing the classroom. It familiarized the participants with managerial skills, techniques and effective strategies enabling them to analyze their teaching style and strengthen it further to effectively manage large classes. Effective classroom management requires teachers to have skills and clear ideas of what exactly is needed to create an effective teaching and learning environment in the classroom.

53 teachers from various schools of Delhi/NCR participated in this programme. Dr. Renu Malvia, Associate Professor at Lady Irwin College and Smt. Usha Anand, Psychologist, were the resource persons for the two-day programme held on 25th and 26th of October 2016. They followed activity based and learning by doing method rather than the traditional lecture method which allows only one way communication. They also discussed about the significance of activity based approach in classroom environment.

During the 2nd day of the workshop, Additional Director of CBSE, Mrs. Suman Sharma presented her views on Inclusive Education and its implementation in a classroom.

The two day programme ended with a recapitulation of the practical aspect of classroom management followed by the distribution of participation certificate by CBSE.

Lend a Helping Hand: Fundraiser for Charity

SEWA is Social Empowerment through Work and Action, an integral component of CBSE-i. The objective of SEWA programme is to highlight the importance of interdependence of all human beings. It is to make students understand the necessity of togetherness in this shrinking global village.

Keeping the purpose of SEWA in mind, the second project that the students undertook was to organize their very first fundraiser event called Lend a Helping Hand on 22.10.2016 (Saturday).  As part of the charity event, students displayed hand-made articles for the visitors, namely, the parents and other dignitaries.

The fundraiser was held in their respective classes. The event was divided into two sections:-

              A) 2:30pm to 3:00pm was a ‘Glance Through. Parents walked around and went to different classes to witness all that our children had made with such dedication. This was done so that parents were able to appreciate what their ward had made before it was sold to someone.

               B) 3:00pm to 3:30pm sale of the said items started.

The money that was collected from the sale of these items will be donated to an NGO that takes care of the needs of street children.  A donation box was also kept in each class, in case parents, teachers and other dignitaries wanted to help us out in our cause to support these kids.

We were very happy and honored that our respected Principal Mrs. Peter, Mr. Arun Sharma, our Director and a special guest, Mr. Gupta (retired principal of Bal Bharti School, Jamshedpur), graced the event. Even the dignitaries, who accompanied them, participated in the fundraiser.

This was one of the projects wherein the students participated with full enthusiasm and gusto. They spent hours coming up with ideas and making items for the cause of helping others. Even the little tots of classes 1 and 2 gave in their full effort and decorated diyas, candles, coasters, pen stands and pretty lamps. We saw some serious creativity from senior classes who came up with beautiful articles like earrings, key chains, fridge magnets, photo frames, bed sheets, table mats etc.

It was a successful affair. Everyone present was really impressed by the items displayed by our students. We had an amazing participation from our parents who eagerly encouraged the students for their effort and supported our cause by buying our articles and donating. We have raised approximately Rs. 30,000 from the charity event. We are grateful for the support of our faculty and parents. Lets us hope good causes like these keep bringing us together.

              Thank You!

                    DUSSEHRA CELEBRATION (Seniors)

                    DUSSEHRA CELEBRATION

                    Good always triumph over Evil

Dussehra, also called Vijayadashmi, is the culmination of the nine-day Navaratri celebration. It is a festival that marks the killing of Ravan, his son Meghanath and brother Kumbhakarn, by Lord Ram. It is seen as the victory of good over evil.

Dussehra celebrates Ram’s victory over Ravana in a festival spread out over ten days. The story of Ram’s life is enacted in a folk art form called Ramleela.

A special assembly was conducted on 8th Oct’16 in the premises of Arwachin International School by the students on the occasion of Dussehra celebration.

The students presented a short enactment on the story of Ramayan which was appreciable. The students also highlighted upon the importance of the festival in today’s world; Dussehra symbolizes the conquest of good over evil. They even presented Bhajans, songs and dances to grace the occasion.

It is thus considered as an auspicious day. It is the fact that truth always wins and motivates them to follow the path of dharma.

Even today after burning the effigy of Ravana along with his subordinates Meghanad and Kumbhkarana during the Dusshera celebrations, we simply symbolize the power of good and humanity above all kind of powers.

The school Principal Mrs. Peter, appreciated the effort of the students and emphasized that this day is considered not only the victory of Ram but all of mankind.

Summing up, the event was a learning experience for all about our rich Indian culture and values.
