Capacity
building programme on Elimination of Corporal Punishment
A day long capacity building programme for Managers,
Principals, Vice Principals of aided/ unaided recognised schools of Delhi on
“Elimination of Corporal Punishment” was organised by SCERT on 16th
October, 2018, at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi.
The programme had the following components:

Child
Safety
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Manish Sisodiya,
who is also the Education Minister, inaugurated the programme. He exhorted the
teachers and educators to eliminate fear from the minds of the students, while
imparting education to them. He insisted that teachers must build capacity in
the children to learn more and more, leaving behind their fear and shyness.
Once the atmosphere is created, only then we can achieve the goal of real and
value based education for the overall development of a child.
Other eminent speakers were Dr. Sunita Kaushik,
Director of SCERT,Prof. Farah, Prof. Neerja Shukla, NCERT, Delhi and Ms.
Geetanjali Goel, Additional district and sessions Judge.
The programme was aimed to provide an in depth
understanding about different issues related to corporal punishment, legal
provision against corporal punishment, and available referral services in
Delhi. It was also to empower teachers on broad context and perspective of
corporal punishment. The objective was to create positive attitude among the
stake holders.
It was a very informative session which made the
people think and re think about the present scenario in schools. The middle
school coordinator, Mrs. Priya Grover, attended the session and got a lot of
insight into grooming a confident and positive 21st century
generation.
